Join us as we work to create an exciting future for one of New Jersey’s joint public libraries. The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a thoughtful, energetic and capable leader to become the next library director. You will join our team of 28 staff members or 13.5 FTE, an engaged board and a growing group of community volunteers and Friends to expand on our tradition of service. Serving Matawan Borough and Aberdeen Township, a combined community of 26,364 people, the library had over 79,270 annual visitors who borrowed more than 136,071 items in 2009. The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library’s annual budget is approximately $1,100,000.  

The library’s recent strategic planning project helped guide the library and board to improve services, programs and collections that have resulted in increased use by many in the community. The library has become a busy destination for local residents as it has hosted over 6,265 people in the past year attending programs and meetings. Matawan Borough and Aberdeen Township are about one hour from New York City and close to many of the New Jersey shoreline communities of Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic Counties.

Candidates require an ALA-accredited MLS degree and experience as a public library department head or administrator. Leadership, management and budgeting skills are a plus, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, a hands-on work ethic and interest in and knowledge of emerging technologies. Starting salary is competitive up to 85k and commensurate with experience, including an excellent benefit package.
