Join us as we continue to create an exciting future for one of New Jersey’s highly regarded public libraries. The Chester Library Board of Trustees is seeking a thoughtful, energetic and capable leader to become the next library director. You will join our team of 20 staff (8 FTE), an experienced and engaged board and a committed group of community volunteers and Friends to expand on our tradition of service. Serving Chester Borough and Chester Township, a combined community of 9,000 people, the library had over 112,000 annual visitors who borrowed more than 159,000 items in 2007. The Chester Library’s annual budget is just under $1,000,000.
The library’s recent renovation and addition to 15,000 square feet of modern library space has continued to make it a prime destination for local residents. Chester Borough and Chester Township are about one hour from New York City, close to 206 North, in beautiful and historic Morris County.
Candidates should have an ALA-accredited MLS degree and experience as a public library department head or administrator. Programming and budget presentation skills are a plus, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, a hands-on work ethic and knowledge of grant writing and emerging technologies. Starting salary is highly competitive up to 90k and commensurate with experience, including an excellent benefit package.
